May has approached us and May is a busy month when it comes to the Tudors. We remember this day as the day that George and Anne Boleyn were arrested along with Sir Henry Norris. Just three years before they had been celebrating Anne Boleyn and Henry VIII's wedding, celebrating Henry's new title as "Head of the Church In England". But everything would end more quickly then they had getting to where they were.
Henry VIII had already met Jane Seymore and fallen in love with her; and that meant falling out of love with Anne Boleyn. Jane and Anne couldn't have been further apart when it comes to both personalities and looks. Anne Boleyn had darker skin, reported as olive colored, she had dark eyes, and dark hair. She's very opinonated and wasn't afraid to say what she wished to the King. The same fire in her soul which had lifted her so high, would be the same reason that she fell. Jane had pale skin, blonde hair, and blue eyes. She was what you expected from a Queen Consort. In my opinon, Jane used the same tatics that Anne had used to win Henry's heart. When he bestowed upon them both with gifts, they both sent them back. Something no mistress, nor woman, had done before. An insult to Henry, and they saved themselves by claiming it would ruin their chances at catching a good husband. To both Anne and Jane, it was Queen or nothing.
Henry was very good at pretending everything was okay, and Anne's enemies, the Seymores amung them, worried Anne would steal Henry's heart back and Anne would carry full term a son and heir. Securing her position as Queen and saving her life. But about a month prior she had delievered early of a stillborn baby boy. This would be the excuse to bring her down in her enemies eyes. Even though it is unsure how long her enemies were plotting her downfall, I beleve it started when Anne told Henry "Queen or Nothing".
Henry had left the May Day Joust just the day before, right in the middle of it. Mark Smeaton had already confessed and Henry was outraged by the news. The Queen he had changed everything for had stabbed him in the back. Henry Norris was in questioning, Anne's case bever had a chance. Anne probably could have spoken her way out of this mess, if only she had been able to see the king. But Henry was long gone.
Anne was enjoying a tennis match in Greenwich Palace when she was informed by a messanger that king wished her to present herself infornt of the Privy Counsle, her uncle umong them. She did as she was told and when she arrived she was informed of her charges of Adultery with four men and incest with her brother, a total of five men. They saw that Anne most likely knew nothing of the investigation going on around her, but I honestly don't see how that could be possible. She had many enemies, and her coolness at her trial, execution and arrest were that of a woman fully in charge of her emotions.
By two in the afternoon she was sent by river to the Tower. Sir Edmund Walsingham was at the Tower gates when she arrived. Master Kingston, Constable and Leutienant of the Tower, showed Anne through the tower when asked, "am I to go to the dungeon?" when he replied, "no madame. You are to go to your lodgings that you lay in your coronation". Anne then reportably broked down to her knees exlaiming, "It is too good for me. Jesus have mercy on me". The upcoming days would be rough on Anne, but she would face them....
